24/3/11 part 4
We have decided that instead of doing the filming in the wood today we will do the filming tomorrow morning.
24/3/11 part 3
Today in the afternoon lesson we are filming the scene in the woods with the flowers and the ring. The problem we are having is finding a ring to use for the scene.
Tomorrow on 25/3/11 Leanne and Amber in the afternoon are going down by the river to film the scene with the love letter and the origami swan.
The part of the river where Leanne and Amber are filming.

Today because of the rendering difficulty Leanne and I have started to edit our music video again. As this option would be faster than having to edit than wait for it to stop rendering. Today I will be helping Leanne edit so we can edit quicker, and hopefully for preciously.

Today we have been perfecting our blogs adding images and pictures.
Today we have had a problem with editing the music video, the problem is rendering. Rendering is slowing down our editing which is causing us to believe that this will be a major problem when we complete the music video.

What we have to do to perfect the music video
- Someone needs to finish the costume designs (Colour in)
- Finish editing
- Perfect blog
Photos from music video
The guitars and amp we were going to use in our video. We ended up only using the amp and the white guitar.
Leanne doing her hair and make up for the performance in the woods.
Us setting up the equipment for the scene in the woods. Seen is the drum kit, camera and tripod, the guitar, amp, and Leanne.
Amber doing my make up for the performance.
The drum kit. It didn't take as long as I thought it would because I had set it up before and dismantled it.

Feedback for the video via Facebook
Me and my group created a group on facebook where we put the rough cut music video for people to give us feedback so we can improve the video.
Some of the comments we have had back are:
Good locations
But better performance in the woods.
Works well with the genre.

Feedback from groups watching music video
What were the strongest parts of the video?
The video had good locations.
Leanne looks appropriately styled.
Handheld shots were effective.
Camera shots.
Lighting.
Editing.
Which bits of the performance need improving?
More angles and cuts in the performance section(performance in the woods).
Guitar. Amber needs to play harder to the music.
How appropriate was the video to the genre of the music? Anything that could be described as unconventional?
The locations fit the genre and the style of the video fits.
I believe that all the feedback can be used to improve the music video. I think that we will work hard to improve the performance in the woods, especially with Amber.

9/3/11 the filming we did in cambridge
On wednesday the 9th march we went into Cambridge to a garage by the Grafton centre to film a few shots for the music video.
We went to town at lunch time to get filming started early. We used the Grafton toilets as a costume and make up area, we went to Poundland and brought speakers which you attach to your mobile to play music louder and clearer. We used the speakers for our performance, they worked tremendously well.
We managed to get a lot of good clips for the video, we had no complications, everything went smoothly.

In the afternoon lesson we are editing the music video footage. We have imported the footage from our camera and Leanne and Amber are lip syncing the clips to the music on Final Cut.

Yesterday at 1:05 we brought the drum kit down to the woods from the hall. We spent time setting up outside trying to get the mise-en-scene right. The drum kit was the most difficult to set up but I managed to do it from recalling how I took it apart.
An hour in we had technical difficulty when the i pod speakers ran out of battery, I went and got some batteries which worked for half an hour longer before we resorted to using Ambers phone playing the song. This was harder to hear which made trying to performer to it difficult. When we were filming alot of students came outside by our set up to smoke, which was distracting, especially when three boys came over to the drum, kit and asked to play it. One of the boys then broke a stick in half and attempted to play the drums. We stepped in and stated that the drums were for hire and playing the kit with the sharp sticks would damage the kit. The boys walked away and we were free to get back to work.
Though this scene had its problems I think that we managed to get some really good shots and made the music video look professional and realistic.

Today we are filming the scene in woods by the college. Currently Leanne is filming a scene at home in her room and will be in soon. We plan to film the scene at lunch time and hope that the weather does not disturb our filming.
I think that the biggest issues we are going to face today are the setting up off the drum kit and the possibility of rain. I continue to check the weather for today so just in case it rains. The weather for today is misty, this doesn't seem like to much of a problem except for the lighting of the scene.
I'm trying to think of alternative settings. An alternative setting I have thought of is the main hall, but I would have to ask for permission.

Technical Analysis of Video- Foo Fighters 'All My Life'
1) Number of setup changes (change of location/ costume/ performer)
2) The different camera angles used in each set up
3) How the editing works between these elements
I can learn that it is good to use quick changes to keep the audiences attention, and use lighting well to bring that extra professional touch.
- three location changes. The car park, corridor, and stage.
- there is only one costume for each of the band.
- there are four performers. Singer, guitarist, bassist, and drummer.
2) The different camera angles used in each set up
3) How the editing works between these elements
- the editing is fast
- changing between each edit using out of focus effects.
- At the high point of the video they spotlight the different members of the band, with 1 second edits.

Today we were meant to filming in the woods by the college, as we couldn't on friday, but due to costume complications we are unable to do any filming. We can't film tomorrow until half way through second lesson, due to performers having appointments.

11/3/11
Today we contacted Millers Music Centre asking what time the drums and mic are being delivered. The manager of the store, Barry Robinson, has said that he and his workers are trying to contact the people who are meant to be delivering the drum kit and mic. We are still waiting to hear from them, so we can start filming in the forest.
While we have been waiting we have done our make up for the performance and sorted the costume and hair. We got the rest of our props ready; Two guitars, amp and drum sticks.

9/3/11 Filming in Cambridge
10/3/11
Today we called Miller's Music Centre after they left a voicemail saying they were giving us an acoustic drum kit. We have decided that we will use the acoustic drum kit tomorrow for filming in the woods.
We have just heard back from the earlier conversation, and it has been decided that the drum kit will be delivered to the colleges reception hopefully in the morning tomorrow.

7/3/11 part 2
Today we have called and talked to Richard Drew of Miller's Music Centre and discussed our arrangement. We are calling back on wednesday to get everything finally sorted.
7/3/11
On friday we contacted Miller's Music Centre in Cambridge, to see if we could use a drum kit and microphone. At the weekend we heard back from them as they sent us emails saying that we could use a digital drum kit and a microphone, if we put an advert at the end of our music video for them.
This is the email they sent to us.

Email sent to Music stores
Dear sir/madam
I'am inquiring on behalf of Long Road College students to the potential use of a microphone and a drum kit, next week for a few days for our music video. We would be more than happy to add your logo at the end of the music video, as we have no budget. We would be happy to make a deal with you as we haven't been given a budget for props.
We would be very grateful for help.
Yours faithfully
Long Road music group, Sophie Swan

Hey Monday- Video Treatment
The treatment is telling the concept of the video and what will be done in the video.
The concept of this video is a story line and live looking performance. The story is about a girl who has broken up with her boyfriend. We have decided that the live performance will be done in the woods. We are using sites around Cambridge, such as the train station, for the story telling side.
We start the video off with Leanne walking out of the train station

Music video director- Chris Cunningham
Chris Cunningham started his career in 1989 with the animatronic show 'Spitting image'. He then went onto work on 'Aliens 3' in 1990 and in 1994 worked on the film version of 'Judge Dredd'. The last film he worked on was 'A.I', he then left and started work on directing music videos. He appeared on the Channel 4 show 'Mirror ball'.
